Nature and apperance of the Toller

(FCI breeds nomenclature – FCI Nr. 312; Group n°8)

General appearence

The Toller is a medium sized, powerful, compact, harmonious and well muscled dog. Bone substance is medium to strong. The Toller comes with a high degree of agility, alertness and determination.

Culli woring the dummy

Many Tollers show a somewhat sad expression until they get to work. Immediately their appearance changes to intense concentration and excitement. During the work, Tollers show a fast, rushing action, with the head almost in one level with the back line and the constantly moving tail.

Nature

The Toller is highly intelligent, very docile and shows great endurance. He is a strong and capable swimmer (has webbed toes). The Toller retrieves reliably and with talent both in the water and on land. He is spirited in his work and sometimes finds creative solutions, to retrieve an object or to find the way back to the handler. For the Toller the direct way is not always the best!

Indispensable basics for his ability to attract ducks are his pronounced play instinct and sense of retrieval. If you play a lot with the ball, you have to be careful, that the Toller does not develop a certain ball addiction.
